In 1979 Geshe Rabten invited His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Mont-Pelerin in order to inaugurate the new center Tharpa Choeling and to give his first public teaching in the West.

At the end of the teaching Geshe Rabten offered a Long Life ceremony to His Holiness.
