Lhasa, Tibet Shri Choephel Kundeling Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Lhasa which was established in 1663 by Mehame Ghukoling Youngen’s father Lama Choedrub Dewal Doungen Rinpoche. This monastery is one of the temples appointed by the 5th Dalai Lama as a royal temple. Kundeling Monastery is also known for its Lamas who are often selected to be the Regent of Tibet, in between the incarnations of the Dalai Lama. The head of the monastery is known as the Kundeling Tagtsha Jetung Rinpoche, of which there have been thirteen incarnations since the monastery's establishment. The monastery was renovated in 1951.
