'Monlam' also known as The Great Prayer Festival, falls on 4th - 11th day of the first month in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. This most significant event in Tibet was established in 1409 by Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug tradition. Do have a look at this lively video of the Monlam Festival in Shar Gaden Monastery!

This great Buddhist festival was started by Lama Tsongkhapa to pray for world peace and prosperity. It is still being practised by Gelug monasteries following the tradition of its founder. I enjoyed watching the ceremonies conducted by the monks. The tormas are beautiful!
