Kham, Tibet Gonsa Monastery, in the Kham region of Tibet, was originally a Sakya monastery but was converted into a Gelug monastery during the time of the Fifth Dalai Lama. Within this monastery is housed a magnificent 12-storey high statue of Je Tsongkhapa. There is also a very large and beautiful Protector chapel dedicated to Dorje Shugden, who is the main Protector not just of the monastery but also of the larger Kham province. Readers' Comments
The main Tulku of this monastery is H.E. Denma Gonsar Rinpoche, a senior Lama and student of both H.H. Kyabje Pabongka Dechen Nyingpo Rinpoche and H.H. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. Denma Gonsar Rinpoche taught prolifically to the 600 members of the monastic community within his monastery and the lay people of his district. Huge Dorje Shugden statue in Gonsa Monastery Before Denma Gonsar Rinpoche passed away, the current incarnation of H.H. Kyabje Pabongka Choktrul Rinpoche would travel very often to this monastery to receive rare teachings, practices and commentaries from him. Unfortunately, Kyabje Denma Gonsar Rinpoche entered clear light recently. He told his main attendants before passing away that a few boys would claim to be his incarnation. However, the real incarnation will be able to recite the Root Tantra of Guhyasamaja from memory perfectly. He advised that only this boy should be enthroned as his real incarnation.
